PORTRAIT OF GAGANASIM BHAIRO WITH HIS WIFE

Painted by Gyan Bakta Lama 2017
Based on the original painting by Adyayaraja Puna and Udyayarama
Puna and is the largest Newar painting ever discovered to date (circa 1450-74)
49.5″ x 41.5″

This painting shows a pleasant domestic scene with a householder
Gaganshim Bharo seated with his senior and junior wives. This
portrait of an affluent family indicates their Hindu devotion with six
deities shown across the top: Ganesh, Brahma, Shiva and Parvati,
Vishnu, and Kumara. The senior wife wearing finely-rendered clothes
is presenting her husband with a tasty betel leaf confection.
